Dordt in Cello - On.Cello Tunes&Poems

On.Cello-tones&tunes (2021) is the first solo album of cellist Iván Nogueira. This work emerged from the exploration of the possibilities and resources of the cello within Keltic folkloric styles. Together with poetess Marieke van Leeuwen, On.Cello-Tones&Poems appears from the need of telling the stories and feelings conceived within the album, combining music and poetry.

Iván’s roots and musical background are deeply reflected in this work. You can hear the Keltic sounds of his homeland Galicia (Spain), Irish jigs and reels, and classical and jazz influences.

Marieke van Leeuwen, actress, writer, theater director and cello lover, has written a series of poems inspired by this music and all that it represents.

Being Galicia a Spanish northern region, it has its own distinctive character, culture, landscapes, nature, music and dance, which are musically represented in each of the 10 tracks. All tracks were composed with the intention of creating an experience of polyphony on a solo cello, and reproducing the sounds of other folk instruments such as: bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy, tambourine, harp, vocal music, and the fiddle or folk violin.

In the performance, music and poems go hand in hand, to let the audience travel to the, often forgotten, Keltic side of Spain.
